Prayer for Ukraine in Sofia Kyiv
On October 14, 2016, on the day of the Feast of the Intercession of the Mother of God, which is also the Day of the Defender of Ukraine, the Holy Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine Filaret took part in a joint prayer of representatives of the Churches and religious organizations of Ukraine, held at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev. Archbishop Vyshgorod Agapit, Archbishop of St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, also participated in the prayer.
The Primate of the Kyivan Patriarchate recited a Prayer recited during the liturgy or prayer during the days of anxiety and the invasion of enemies to our State and Fatherland, in which he prayed that the Lord should liberate the Motherland from the invasion of foreigners and give the Ukrainian people peace and blessings.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and his wife Maryna Poroshenko also prayed for Sophia in Kyiv. Members of the Government and heads of security agencies of Ukraine also took part in the event.
After the chanting, the choir sang the church hymn of Ukraine - "God the Great, One."
Peter and Mary Poroshenko set candles and prayed near the icon of the Mother of God.
