The celebration of the 1030th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus was held in Kyiv.
July 28, 2018 is a great day for the Ukrainian State and the Church. It is on this day that the 1030th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus-Ukraine was celebrated, and we also commemorate the memory of the one who contributed most to that - Holy Equal-to-the-Apostle Grand Duke Vladimir.
According to good tradition, the clergy and believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate from all over Ukraine have been gathering in the glorious city of Kyiv for several years in a row.
On June 28, the procession of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate took place in Kyiv to mark the 1030th anniversary of the baptism of Rus-Ukraine. The procession began near St. Vladimir's Cathedral and ended with a solemn prayer service on Vladimir Hill.
After the service in the Volodymyr Cathedral, the Holy Cross of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate took place, in which from 65 to 150 thousand people participated. Patriarch Filaret was in the lead, and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak, Culture Minister Yevhen Nishchuk and other officials were among the participants. In general, the number of people can be equated to the number of people on the Maidan during the Dignity Revolution. It was the largest Crusade in Ukrainian history.
The Dniprovsk Eparchy of the UOC-KP also took an active part in this historic event.
With the blessing of Bishop of Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih Bishop Simeon, the Eparchy organized a pilgrimage to the capital.
On July 27, everyone was free to use the buses to travel to Kyiv.
Transportation and everything needed for parishioners, residents of Dnipro and the region were provided by the eparchy's philanthropist and President of the International Charitable Foundation "Solidarity" Alexander Petrovsky and the Dnieper Eparchy with the support of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration and Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council.
Parishioners from all over the region joined the Dnieper column at the border of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Dozens of buses from Dnipro, Kamensky, Kryvyi Rih, Nikopol, Marhanets, Krynychok and many other cities and villages. A total of 74 buses from the Dnieper and Dnipropetrovsk regions and as a result the largest delegation in Ukraine.
And President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko made a speech at the Vladimir Hill after the procession. The President said that Ukraine's receipt of Thomas's autocephaly would complete its assertion of independence and independence. According to the President, millions of Ukrainians expect and are ready to acknowledge the Autocephalous Orthodox Church in Ukraine as soon as possible. Poroshenko emphasized that autocephaly is a question of Ukrainian independence, a question of Ukrainian national security and a question of the whole world geopolitics. “Autocephaly is a matter of our independence. This is a matter of our national security. This is a matter of the whole world geopolitics, ”the President added. At the same time Poroshenko assured that the state would not interfere in church affairs.
Patriarch Filaret, in his turn, said after the prayer that the procession that took place in Kyiv on July 28 was "the largest in the history of Ukraine."
It should be noted that the Bishop of the Dnieper Diocese Bishop Simeon also took an active part in the celebration and together with other representatives of the clergy took part in the Divine Liturgy in the Volodymyr Cathedral, the Holy Cross and the prayer service on Vladimir Hill.
