On May 17, 2018, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, in the framework of his working visit to the city of Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk region, visited the central diocesan temple in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Unexpected Joy" in Dnipro.
Petro Poroshenko's working visit began with an inspection of the construction of the bypass road of the city of Dnipro, inspected the reconstructed school in Solon, and visited the hospital. Mechnikov. After that, the President of the country welcomed a large number of members of the Dnieper public, patriots of Ukraine, anti-terrorist organizations, representatives of the regional authorities, plasters of the Dnieper, children of the cultural and educational center of the Sunday school of Dniprokirvik in Dnipropetrovsk. I ”, representatives of the clergy of the Dnieper Diocese from all over the region, as well as famous athletes and trainers of the region, students of local schools and many other indifferent Dnieper.
President Petro Poroshenko participated in the prayer service for Ukraine and the only local Orthodox Church. The Most Holy Bishop Simeon, the governor of the Dnieper Diocese, completed the prayer.
Among the distinguished guests at the prayer were the patron of the Diocese - Alexander Vladimirovich Petrovsky with family and friends, as well as the heads of the regional power - the chairman of the regional state administration Valentin Reznichenko and the chairman of the regional council Gleb Prigunov, the People's Deputy of the Committee of the State Committee People's Deputy of Ukraine Tatiana Rychkova.
The President thanked for the common prayer. "It is very important when we pray together to God and ask to bless our country, which is undergoing tremendous trials, to bless the long-suffering Ukrainian people and God's help, so that our people may choose the right to have a Ukrainian Orthodox local church," the Head of State emphasized.
The President recalled that the Verkhovna Rada overwhelmingly supported the appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, representatives of the UOC-KP, UAOC and others also signed the petitions. “Now the wave that has come across Ukraine is among the Ukrainian people in support of this Appeal, this hope. The main thing that happens is prayer. What the church hierarchs called for, asked the Ukrainian President. There are only two things to do: pray and fight for the Ukrainian church. And I believe the Lord will send it to us, ”the Head of State said.
The President recalled that he had recently prayed in a temple in the Kyiv region together with representatives of the UOC-KP, UGCC, UAOC and UOC-MP. “You would see the eyes of the faithful shining. They are beginning to believe that we are very close to uniting everyone, ”he stressed.
“It is important for Ukrainians to have their own Ukrainian path to God and their own Ukrainian church. I emphasize that this is not a political issue. This is a question of the sovereignty of our state, the existence of our state, independence. Because an independent local church is an attribute of the state. We paid a great price for the right to be a state, ”the President stressed.
After the prayer service, the Head of State talked with the students of the cultural and educational center of the Sunday School of the Dnieper Diocese "Ukrainian Courtyard" and parishioners of the temple, took a joint photo and visited the premises of the diocese's administration.
