Bobsleigh World Championships taken away in Russia
The International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation has suggested that the most likely option for holding the 2017 World Cup will be to transfer competitions to another country. The reason for this decision was the boycott of the Championship, which was to take place next year in Sochi, Russia. Referring to its decision that Russia has stripped the Olympic spirit of competition, plunged into the loudest doping scandals of recent years, some athletes and entire federations have refused to come to Sochi.
This week, a boycott of the Russian Federation was announced by bobsleepers from the UK. In particular, Lizzie Yarnold refused to go to Sochi. Yarnold, who has been in the national team for six years from the previous Sochi Championships in 2014, won a gold medal, so the decision of a prominent athlete was backed by the British Olympic Committee.
Earlier, a number of athletes and Latvia's skeleton team refused to participate in the 2017 World Cup in Russia.
Currently, the International Federation does not announce when the case will be postponed, and does not announce possible applicants for the venue, but noted that all information will be announced shortly.
