Stoltenberg states that only Ukraine has the right to decide whether to join NATO
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed that NATO is ready to see two members, Georgia and Ukraine, among its members. He expressed this opinion to the French edition.
He also stressed that a country that wants to become part of the Alliance must clearly adhere to NATO standards. According to the Secretary-General, neither Russia nor any other country can decide who to join the Alliance, who does not.
In addition, the country needs a consensus from all member states, namely the 29 world powers, to fill the ranks.
He also stressed that NATO is a "great hope" for the former Soviet Union states that have decided to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
We would add that on June 5, 2017, Montenegro joined the Alliance. This is the 29 country that has officially joined NATO. Official Moscow constantly inserted sticks into the wheels and prevented states from joining the Alliance. According to the Montenegrin authorities, in 2016 the Russian Federation sponsored a coup attempt in the country. The idea was implemented by the opposition. However, the attempt failed.
In addition, pro-Russian Montenegrin authorities were attempting to assassinate Prime Minister Milo Djukanovich, who was acting at the time. According to the Montenegrin authorities, Moscow was going to liquidate politicians who pursued Western policy at any cost.
