On the agenda of the UN Committee on Human Rights in Crimea
The First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko stated this on the sidelines of the Parliament. She noted that the Ukrainian side constantly focuses its attention on the issue of occupied Crimea in international negotiations.
Russian officials do not miss either the OSCE mission, the United Nations, or the Ukrainian authorities. There are thousands of hostages on the peninsula, says Ms. Gerashchinko. "It is unknown at this time what their numbers are and in what condition these people are staying, since neither our consuls, nor the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Human Rights, Valery Lutkovsky, nor the international missions have been able to enter the occupied territory," Iryna Gerashchenko comments .
So today, the Ukrainian side has asked UN representatives to consider resolutions on human rights violations in Crimea. The document will then be requested to support it at a UN Security Council meeting.
Finally, Ms. Irina added that for the first time in a year and a half, the ATO Coordinator in the humanitarian subgroup of the Tripartite Contact Group, Tony Frisch, visited. He managed to meet with several Ukrainian hostages and send them letters from relatives. The official also managed to visit the Donetsk pre-trial detention center, where juvenile offenders are being held, and to ask them about their living conditions in the remand prison under the authority of the so-called "DPR".
