The 12th session of the Expert Committee on Roma and Nomads is underway in Strasbourg
The regular 12th session of the Special Expert Committee of the Council of Europe on Roma and Nomads (CAHROM) has started its work in the city of Strasbourg (France). The inauguration and presentation of the newly elected Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Valeriu Nicolae, who became the first Roma to hold this important position, took place on November 15 at the Palace of Europe.
The official representative of Ukraine in this authoritative Council of Europe working body is the Director of the Department for Religions and Nationalities of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine Andriy Yurash.
During the Committee's meeting on November 15, among other things, issues of direct concern to Ukraine were discussed. In particular, members of the Committee representing the 46 participating countries of this format, as well as representatives of the 6 countries participating in the Committee as observers, heard a detailed message from the Ukrainian Government representative about the latest practical steps taken by Ukraine's executive power regarding Improvement and implementation of the Strategy for protection and integration into the Roma society of the Roma national minority for the period up to 2020, as well as on the terms proposed by the Ukrainian party and other organizational children Lee's visit to our country special expert mission of the Committee to be held in the first half of 2017 year.
In presenting the most important achievements of Ukraine in the field of Roma rights, Andrey Yurash first noted the first meeting of the Interagency Working Group on implementation of the above-mentioned Strategy on November 7 this year, which became the most convincing and the greatest achievement of our country for the entire period of its independence. A strategy of goals and plans pursued by the Roma community since 1994. In addition to directly holding a meeting of the Working Group chaired by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko and Deputy First Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Svitlana Fomenko, specific mechanisms have been elaborated within her framework for declaring alternative goals for promoting developmental development should be implemented in practical terms. To this end, several specific ideas and appropriate mechanisms have been proposed in the preparation for the meeting of the Interagency Working Group, which should be implemented in the near future.
