Lviv offered to consider ATO zone priests combatants
The Lviv Regional Council has submitted a proposal to grant the status of combatants to priests who continue to perform their duties in the area of anti-terrorist operation.
Deputies of the Lviv Regional Council sent an appeal to the Parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, in which they emphasized the need to change the status of priests who are fulfilling their mission in the area of anti-terrorist operation. According to Lviv deputies, the amendments to the law on the status of war veterans and their social protection are not fair enough because they did not take into account the interests of clergy who support the spirit of the Ukrainian military.
According to the deputies, despite the fact that priests do not take up arms, they are no less important participants in the ATO, as they are responsible for the spirituality of the Ukrainian military. Given these features, the authors of the appeal believe that these merits should be recognized by the state through the provision of appropriate status.
