Liliya Grinevich during a meeting with regional education departments: By December 1, all schools must comply with the Law on Education
Much of the provisions of the Law on Education have already come into force, in particular schools are now obliged to publish financial statements on the financial and expenditure of the institution, regardless of whether it is public funds or charitable contributions from parents. This was discussed during a meeting of the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliya Grinevich with the heads of all regional departments of education of Ukraine today, November 2, in the hall of the Ministry of Education and Science.
“In addition to the undeniable fact that the law must be implemented, there is another - in society there is a myth that parents are almost completely funding education. Obviously, this is not the case. Transparent financial statements, first, will help us to estimate how much money Ukrainian society is investing in school education now and what a share of this shadow education budget is, and secondly, to give our parents a transparent picture of what their money is spent on. . Let us together now determine the optimum date when we can require all schools to make this information public. I am sure that better than you - heads of regional departments - no one understands the work of schools on the ground ”, - said Liliya Grinevich .
Together with the heads of education departments, it was decided that the time before December 1 was sufficient period to ensure compliance with this provision of the law.
“I think it is worthwhile for you to secure this term with the appropriate document locally. Then, in December, the law must be monitored. Unfortunately, it is often the case that if the requirement of the law is not backed up by a certain responsibility, it is simply not fulfilled. Therefore, it would be correct if those institutions that do not fulfill the requirement were held responsible, for example, the managers got reprimanded, ”the Minister added.
