New network of fast charging stations for electric vehicles
Several major concerns have announced the start of a joint project. It envisages the construction and development in Europe of a large-scale network of fast charging stations for hybrid and electric cars.
BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company, as well as Volkswagen with subsidiaries Audi and Porsche have already agreed to participate in the project.
The main goal is to increase the comfort of traveling on electric cars over long distances, unlike conventional machines and with internal combustion engines. For this purpose special stations of supercharging of batteries will be deployed along the main European highways.
The project is scheduled to start in 2017. In the first phase, the partners intend to deploy close to 400 such stations. The units will be able to provide power up to 350 kW, which is significantly higher than most existing systems. And by 2020, several thousand recharging stations are expected to emerge.
The emergence of such infrastructure should significantly increase the demand for electric cars, because now one of the negatives of the development of this market is the lack of networks of fast and convenient charging stations.
