Ukraine and Sweden need to expand cooperation in the agricultural sector
Ukraine and Sweden should expand bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector.
This was stated by Deputy Minister for European Integration Olga Trofimtseva after meeting with Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Ukraine Martin Hagström.
“Sweden is an interesting partner for us both in the field of agricultural trade and in the implementation of joint projects. Cooperation can be in sectors such as rural development, export support, including processed foods, ”said the Deputy Minister.
According to Olga Trofimtseva, the projects of the Swedish agency SIDA are already successfully supporting some important directions of work in the agrarian sector of Ukraine (for example, vegetable growing in the southern regions). For more effective cooperation at the government level, this support should be more focused and consistent with existing Ministry priorities and sectoral requests.
Martin Hagström and Olga Trofimtseva also agreed on joint preparation of the Swedish-Ukrainian Business Forum this spring with a broader involvement of representatives of the Ukrainian agrarian and processing sector and Swedish business, who are interested not only in trade relations but also in possible investment projects.
"In my opinion, the joint mission of the ministry and the embassy is to help our countries' businesses find more common points of interest and intensify their dialogue, so a quality business forum with a strong B2B component will be an important impetus for these processes," the Deputy Minister summarized.
According to Olga Trofimtseva, the Kingdom of Sweden is also a promising market for Ukrainian organic products, given the volume of the country's organic market. It is in such niches, including the organization of co-production and processing, that it will be possible to develop bilateral relations in the near future.
